The Goals
This space is here to present information about the Slide Rule, Math, Science, Astronomy, and Education matters. Each of the pages presents a different article I ( Bryan Purcell ) have written about such topics. In them one will find the history, use, and importance of the Slide Rule and how it can be used in the classroom today. There are illustrations through Activities and Exercises using common items and doing problem solving and ideas as well. The Activities span all of Newtonian Physics, as well as exploring areas in Astronomy, Chemistry, and Biology. From Math, it looks to and uses Algebra, Statistics, and Geometry. Though the Activities mostly require common items, such as water, marbles, string, rulers, stopwatches, and the like they need parental permission and supervision, plus a motivated person who enjoys science and math. These Activities move a scientific mind from the conceptual to the mathematical. Enjoy.
Like any site being conducted by a scientist - writer - mathematician - teacher, this is one that will evolve in time as I learn and grow with it.
